What ingredients do I need?

You will need thick bread slices (Texas toast is ideal), fresh strawberries, cream cheese, granulated sugar, powdered sugar, eggs, butter, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.

What is the cream cheese filling made of?

Cream cheese and powdered sugar.

How do I stuff the bread?

This part is easy. You simply spread the filling on one slice of bread and place another slice on top. Other recipes ask you to cut a slit in the bread and shove the filling inside. I’ve found that to be a risky proposition. I usually end up destroying the bread. So the sandwich method is my go-to.

How do I make the batter for the French toast?

In a shallow container, mix eggs, milk, vanilla extract and cinnamon. I like to use a pie plate or 8×8 baking dish — it makes for easier dipping.

How do I cook the French toast?

Melt butter in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Dip each stuffed bread slice into the egg mixture, making sure it is well coated. Place the bread slices in the pan and cook until golden brown on each side.

You’ll want to keep the heat on the lower side, since it takes a couple minutes to heat up the cream cheese filling. You want to avoid burning your French toast before the filling is warm.

How should I serve this stuffed French toast?

Serve it hot, dusted with powdered sugar, fresh strawberries, and maple syrup.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup diced strawberries (divided)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 (8 ounces) package cream cheese
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 8 slices of Texas toast
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Combine strawberries and sugar in a small bowl, and set aside. In a large mixing bowl whip together cream cheese
and powdered sugar until smooth and well combined. Fold in half of the strawberry mixture.
  2. Spread cream cheese onto a slice of the bread. Place another slice on top, pressing down the sandwich. Repeat until all of the stuffed french toast are prepared.
  3. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. As the butter melts, grab a shallow
bowl and beat the eggs, milk, vanilla extract and cinnamon in the bowl.
  4. Dip the stuffed french toast into the egg mixture, submerging both sides completely. Place dipped french toast onto the saute pan, cooking both sides until lightly golden on each side. Repeat with remaining french toasts.
  5. Serve with remaining strawberries and maple syrup.
