Making your own version of the Arby’s chicken bacon Swiss sandwich at home is easier than you might think, and the result is just as good as the original. Crispy chicken, smoky bacon, creamy honey mustard, and melted Swiss cheese all come together on a toasted bun for a sandwich that feels both comforting and satisfying. It’s the kind of meal that works for lunch, dinner, or anytime you’re craving a hearty bite without heading to the drive-thru.

Why this recipe works

  • Crispy chicken at home: The seasoned breading on the chicken gives it that crunchy texture you expect, while still being tender inside.
  • Savory and smoky bacon: Peppered bacon adds a smoky, salty bite that pairs perfectly with the mild Swiss cheese.
  • Homemade honey mustard: Mixing honey, Dijon mustard, and rice wine vinegar creates a tangy-sweet sauce that ties everything together.
  • Cheesy goodness: Melted Swiss cheese brings creaminess to balance the crisp chicken and bacon.
  • Better than takeout: You get all the flavors of the restaurant version with simple ingredients you already know and trust.
  • Customizable: Add lettuce and tomato for freshness or keep it classic with just the essentials.

Serving suggestions

  • Pair with fries: Classic French fries or curly fries make the perfect side to complete the fast-food style experience.
  • Add a pickle: A dill pickle spear on the side adds crunch and tang to balance the richness of the sandwich.
  • Serve with a salad: A fresh green salad with a light vinaigrette gives a refreshing contrast and makes the meal feel lighter.
  • Make it a meal deal: Add coleslaw and potato wedges for a homemade version of a combo platter.
  • Family style: Cook a batch of chicken breasts and set out toppings so everyone can build their own sandwich just the way they like it.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 2 Servings 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 eggs
  • Oil (for frying)
  • Honey Mustard Sauce-
  • 5 tablespoons honey
  • 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons of rice wine vinegar
  • Additional Ingredients-
  • 2 sesame seed hamburger buns
  • butter (for spreading)
  • 2 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 slices peppered bacon

Instructions

  1. In a bowl combine honey, Dijon mustard and rice wine vinegar. Set aside.
  2. Heat a large skillet to medium heat. Add the bacon and cook until browned and crispy, turning at least once. Drain on a plate lined with paper towels. If you want to know how to cook bacon in the microwave or oven, see my tutorial on how to cook crispy bacon.
  3. Beat the eggs in a bowl. In a shallow plate or pie dish combine flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Roll the chicken first in the flour, then dip in the egg and then roll in the flour again. Repeat with the remaining chicken breast.
  4. Heat oil in a deep-fryer to 375 degrees F. Cook the chicken breasts one at a time in the hot oil for about 10 minutes or until fully cooked (the internal temperature has reached 165 degrees F.). Drain on a plate lined with paper towels. Top each chicken breast with a slice of Swiss cheese.
  5. Heat a large skillet to medium heat. Split the buns in half. Spread a thin layer of butter onto the cut side of each bun. Place into the skillet butter-side-down and cook until browned on the bottom. Remove from the skillet.
  6. To make the sandwiches. Spread a thin layer of honey mustard onto the top of the bottom half of each bun. Top with a cooked chicken breast. Add 2 slices of the bacon onto the chicken. Spread an additional layer of honey mustard onto the bottom of the top half of the bun. Place onto the sandwich, honey mustard side down.
