Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 dozen large or medium sized blue crabs
  • 2 to 3 gallons of water
  • Some old bay seasoning or some bay leaves
  • 3 tbsps of chopped garlic cloves
  • 3 tbsps of seasoning salt
  • 2 small-sized fresh scotch peppers or 3 tbsp of chili peppers
  • 3 whole lemon/lime
  • 3 tbsps of crab/shrimp oil
  • 2 large cut up onion/green onions
  • 2 to 3 tbsps of hot sauce
  • Some seafood boil seasoning
  • 3 cups of distilled white vinegar
  • 3 cups of beer (optional)

Instructions

  1. Once you’ve purchased your blue claw crabs from a seafood market, they should be well clean on their insides, but if you’ve just caught them fresh in the net, make sure you give them a good thorough rinse with a kitchen sink sprayer or garden hose because the insides might be clogged up with some seaweed or sea gunks.
  2. Place and cover a big sturdy pot of water on a stovetop or campfire and begin to boil on high heat, carefully putting in all your desired ingredients, from your seasoning salt to the last of it all, bringing it to a strong simmer. Add in your blue crabs gently and make sure you don’t over pack them in too much.
  3. Once you put in your blue crabs, it instantly turns from its bluish/green color to a bright orange color due to the high heat and seasonings. Allow it to cook for some minutes ( preferably 15 to 20 minutes). The bright orange color of the crabs actually indicates that it’s ready to eat.
  4. At this rate, try adding some blocks of ice to stop the cooking process, allowing all the juices and flavors to really soak into the crab meat. Carefully bring out and place in a serving dish. You can sprinkle some of the remaining seafood seasonings on it just before serving.

You can now get on with eating that tasty seafood, either by breaking the shells with some shell crackers or by using your bare hands, hopefully. Cooking blue crabs are super easy when the preparatory steps are followed properly.
