Air fryer tater tots

  • Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bag of frozen tots
  • Optionally, avocado, grapeseed, or olive oil in a sprayer

Instructions

  1. Skip preheating. The cook time accounts for starting with a cold oven.
  2. Add the tots to the basket. Spread them in a single layer with a little space between each one. A single bag is about right for a 5–6 qt basket. Use half a bag for a 3–4 qt.
  3. Light oil spray. A 1 or 2 second mist of avocado, grapeseed, or olive oil may boost the crispness. Most brands don’t need it since they’re already par-fried, but it doesn’t hurt.
  4. Cook at 400°F for 10–15 minutes, shaking the basket at least once at the halfway mark. If you want them extra even, shake every 5 minutes. Stacked tots on the bottom stay pale otherwise.
  5. Pull at 10 min for soft, 13–15 for crispy. Add 1–2 more minutes if you like them ultra-crisp on the outside.
  6. Salt while hot. Salt sticks best when the tots are fresh out of the basket.
