Southern Style Black Eyed Peas


  • 700g bacon
  • 2 tbsp. garlic, minced
  • 4 Diced
  • 2 tbsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp. cayenne pepper
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 6 cups of black-eyed peas (frozen or fresh)


  1. Heat a Dutch oven and cook the bacon
  2. When the bacon looks nearly done, add the garlic and the shallots
  3. Season with the garlic powder and cayenne pepper
  4. Keep stirring and cook till the shallots turn soft
  5. Pour the chicken broth and bring it to a boil
  6. Add the black eyed peas and let it simmer for about 2 hours or till the peas are soft


You can add more cayenne pepper if you like your peas extra spicy.
