Updated on July 31st, 2025

This Malibu chicken recipe is a crispy, cheesy, and satisfying dinner inspired by the beloved version served at Sizzler restaurants. Each breaded chicken breast is topped with a slice of ham and melty Swiss cheese, then paired with a creamy honey mustard sauce for dipping. It’s easy to prepare, packed with savory flavor, and great for a family meal or casual dinner. Whether you’ve had the original or not, this homemade version brings restaurant-style comfort right to your table.

Why this recipe works

  • Crispy and flavorful coating: Panko breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, and garlic powder create a golden crust that stays crisp and full of flavor.
  • Moist and tender chicken: Marinating in egg yolk and garlic helps keep the chicken juicy while adding richness to every bite.
  • Savory, creamy layers: Thin slices of ham and Swiss cheese melt over the chicken, adding a salty, creamy finish that complements the crispy coating.
  • Easy homemade dipping sauce: The honey mustard sauce made with mayo, mustard, and honey is quick to mix and adds a sweet and tangy touch.

Serving suggestions

  • Pair with flavored rice: A side of seasoned rice or rice pilaf balances the richness of the chicken and adds a nice texture contrast.
  • Add steamed or roasted vegetables: Broccoli, green beans, or carrots make an easy, colorful side that rounds out the plate.
  • Serve with a fresh salad: A light green salad with vinaigrette helps cut through the richness and adds a refreshing element to the meal.
  • Great for meal prep: Leftovers reheat well, especially if you keep the sauce separate, making it a practical option for next-day lunches.

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 3 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

  • 2 tablespoons Grey Poupon mustard
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard

Instructions

  1. Combine the egg yolk and garlic and pour into a sealable plastic bag. Place the chicken breasts inside of the bag and seal shut, making sure there is no extra air inside.

  4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. In a medium bowl combine panko, parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. Mix well. Remove the chicken from the bag and coat with the breadcrumb mixture on both sides. Place onto a greased baking sheet.
  6. Place into the oven and bake at 350 degrees F. for about 40 minutes or until the chicken is fully cooked (the internal temperature has reached 165 Degrees F.).
