Teriyaki chicken wings make an irresistible appetizer that’s both sweet and savory with a sticky, flavorful glaze. These wings are deep-fried until crispy, then tossed in a homemade teriyaki sauce that’s unlike any store-bought version. The use of grapefruit juice adds a citrusy twist that sets this recipe apart, blending perfectly with the garlic, ginger, and soy sauce. Whether you’re serving them on game day or as a fun dinner option, these wings are always a hit.
Why this recipe works
-
Crispy and juicy wings: Deep-frying locks in moisture and creates the perfect texture to hold up to the sticky glaze.
-
Unique citrus flavor: Grapefruit juice adds a tart sweetness that balances the savory notes of the teriyaki sauce.
-
Homemade teriyaki sauce: A rich combination of soy sauce, hoisin, vinegar, garlic, and ginger simmers into a thick, glossy coating.
-
Flexible cooking options: You can grill or bake the wings instead of frying, or use boneless chicken for a different spin.
Serving suggestions
-
Perfect for game day: These wings are made for a crowd. Serve them hot with napkins and extra sauce on the side.
-
Add a dipping option: Ranch or blue cheese dressing can mellow the sweet-savory glaze for guests who want contrast.
-
Serve with simple sides: Try coleslaw, steamed rice, or edamame to make it a full meal that’s still easy to prep.
-
Turn into a main dish: Pair the wings with roasted vegetables or a noodle salad for a casual but flavorful dinner.
