Updated on July 22nd, 2025

This garlic ginger chicken recipe is a fast and flavorful Chinese-style dish that’s easy to make at home. Bite-sized pieces of chicken are coated in a light batter, fried until crispy, and then tossed in a savory sauce made with soy sauce, rice wine, garlic, and fresh ginger. The combination of crispy texture and sweet-salty flavor makes this recipe a great choice for quick weeknight dinners or homemade takeout nights. With just a few pantry staples and simple steps, you can create a meal that tastes just as good as your favorite Chinese restaurant.

Why this recipe works

  • Crispy, golden chicken: The egg and cornstarch batter creates a light, crunchy coating that holds up well when tossed in sauce.
  • Flavor-packed sauce: Soy sauce, rice wine, and sugar combine for a sweet and savory glaze that clings to the chicken.
  • Fresh aromatics: Using minced garlic and fresh ginger adds a fragrant, authentic base of flavor to the stir-fry.
  • Quick and convenient: Once the chicken is prepped and marinated, the dish comes together in under 30 minutes and uses only a few ingredients.

Serving suggestions

  • Serve with white or brown rice: Spoon the saucy chicken over steamed rice to soak up every bit of the flavorful glaze.
  • Add a vegetable side: Pair with stir-fried broccoli, bok choy, or snap peas to make a balanced meal.
  • Top with fresh garnishes: Finish with sliced green onions or a sprinkle of sesame seeds for added freshness and crunch.
  • Make it spicy: If you enjoy heat, add red pepper flakes or a splash of chili oil to the sauce before tossing with the chicken.
