These guacamole chicken burgers are one of my favorite ways to keep burger night fresh, lighter, and full of flavor. Instead of beef, I use seasoned ground chicken, which stays juicy and tender when cooked properly. It also makes a great base for bold toppings.
What really sets these burgers apart is the creamy, homemade guacamole piled on top. It adds richness and freshness so that you don’t need much else — though a layer of melted cheddar works beautifully.

I love how easy these are to put together. They are a nice choice for weeknight dinners or casual summer grilling. The chicken patties cook quickly on the grill or stovetop, and you can mash up the fresh guacamole while they’re cooking.
Serve the burgers on toasted buns, or go protein-styles by wrapping them in lettuce. Either way, these guacamole chicken burgers are satisfying, flavorful, and a great update to your usual burger routine.

Description
These guacamole chicken burgers are made with juicy seasoned ground chicken and topped with creamy homemade guacamole for a fresh, flavorful twist on classic burger night.
Ingredients
- 3 ripe avocados, peeled and pitted
- juice of 1 lime
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup onion, diced
- 3 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 teaspoon fresh minced garlic
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper
- 1 1/2 lbs ground chicken
- 1/2 cup minced yellow onion
- 1/3 cup minced fresh cilantro
- 1/3 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
- 1/2 lime, juiced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 hamburger buns, split and toasted
- 4 teaspoons chopped cilantro
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare
Preheat a grill, grill pan, or large skillet over medium heat. Lightly oil the grates or pan to prevent sticking. - Make the chicken patties
In a bowl, combine the ground chicken with the seasonings and mix gently until just combined. Form the mixture into evenly sized burger patties, being careful not to overwork the meat. The patties will be sticky and a little tough to handle. I like to place them on parchment paper after shaping, and then peel them away from the paper to get them in the pan. - Cook the burgers
Place the chicken patties onto the heated grill or skillet. Cook for about 5 to 6 minutes per side, or until the burgers are fully cooked and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). - Prepare the guacamole
While the burgers cook, mash the avocados in a bowl and stir in the remaining guacamole ingredients until smooth or slightly chunky, depending on your preference. - Assemble and serve
Toast the burger buns if desired. Place the cooked chicken burgers on the buns and top generously with the prepared guacamole. Serve immediately.
Notes
You can also easily substitute store-bought guacamole to streamline your prep.
