Sweet and Sour Fish Recipe

Updated on June 29th, 2022

Are you getting tired of the same old sweet and sour chicken or pork? If so you might want to give this recipe for sweet and sour fish a try. Sweet and sour fish is breaded fish in a delicious sweet and sour sauce with an assortment of fruits and vegetables. You can basically use any kind of white fish for this recipe such as tilapia, halibut, bass, cod, etc. It is always good to try and find nice meaty fillets if possible. I would recommend frying the fish in a deep fryer because in my opinion they just come out better than pan frying. However, if you do not have a deep fryer, feel free to give it a try in the work. The fruits and vegetables going into this dish include pineapple, tomatoes, green peppers, and onions. If you are in a rush and would prefer to use store bought sweet and sour sauce that would work as well. Serve on top of white rice. Enjoy.

The only note is the amount of water in the frying batter I didn’t use the 2cups I just used 11/4c. more than that the batter will be so thin ….

  16. Susana – Yes, I do not see why you wouldn’t be able to. I think this breading would work for fish and chips. If you do try it, please let everyone know how it turns out. Thanks.

  17. love eating fish that tastes like a real meat and sweet and sour fish is the best alternative. its so appetizing yet minimal fats and calories….Happy eating…………

  18. Made this a few months ago and it was absolutely delicious. Halved the recipe but kept the same quantities for the sauce as i like plenty of sauce. It was so tasty, just like from a takeaway or restaurant. Making it again tonight but not deep frying the fish this time. Trying to be a bit healthier this week but it is amazing, mmmm!

  19. this is sooooo good, love it make it often. only difference is i dont mix the fish with the sauce i pile it with rice on the plate then pour the sauce and veg over the top. that way you get a bit of the cruch from the batter still and it slowly gets mixed on the plate as you eat it. ooooh so yummy making it again now. thanx for the recipe.

  20. I tried the recipe a few weeks ago and it was great. I have been wondering how to make the batter look “fluffy” and this was “it”. My family loved it. I have made this twice already. I even used the batter recipe if we are just having fish and chips. Looks like take away, only tastes better.

  21. I tried, but i failed. It turn out to be thick gel and hard. and Mind telling me which specfic orange and pineapple juice to use?

  22. Sorry, I do not remember what brand of orange juice or pineapple juice I used in this recipe. It sounds to me like if you got a thick gel, you used too much cornstarch.

  23. I’ve tried almost all the Chinese recipes from Chef blog and I must say these are the best recipes.
Especially orange chicken and sweet&sour fish ,also fried rice and beef with broccoli.
Thanks for all the great recipes.
