Tips on How to Cook a 7 lb Turkey Breast

Thawing – To thoroughly thaw a frozen turkey breast, you have to remove it from the freezer at least 24 hours before cooking. Notably, large turkeys might take up to two days to thaw.

Make sure you place the frozen turkey breast on the refrigerator’s lowest shelf to thaw. The USDA recommends this method since it is the safest.

Butter – Before slipping the softened butter under the skin, you should gently pull it away from the turkey meat with your fingertips. You will need to apply the butter to the skin’s top layer as well. The butter melts into the flesh and helps brown the skin as the turkey cooks.

Flavoring – To steep in the flavor, you can add some aromatics and wine. You can simply place the turkey breast on a high-rimmed baking sheet and pour the wine over it before or after buttering.

Make sure you use a good white wine that you would like to drink. For an even more succulent taste, squeeze fresh lemon over the turkey and scatter fresh thyme leaves and a few garlic cloves over the wine.

If the liquid evaporates while the turkey cooks, you can replenish the pan with wine, water, or chicken stock to keep the aromatics from burning.

Resting – To get wonderfully juicy oven-roasted turkey breasts, this is a must-do step you can’t even skip. You can allow for at least 15 to 30 minutes of resting time – you can wrap it loosely with foil – to allow the flesh to relax and the delicious juices to soak back in.

  • You may also decide to press them through it to ensure that the gravy absorbs all of the taste.
  • Next thing, get two cups of the liquid and placed in a pot.
  • Go on and whisk together 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and ¼ cup of cold water until smooth. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a low heat and continue to cook until it thickens.
