The following tips, guidelines, and cooking instructions have been provided to help you through the process of cooking oysters from a jar:

Rinse your oysters – For the greatest results, most brands of jarred oysters advise that you rinse your oysters before cooking.

Because jarred oysters aren’t always packed in their own liquor, they may have a less briny flavor than freshly shucked oysters. This isn’t to say they’re not tasty; it just means they’ll have a little different taste and texture than fresh versions.

Different cooking methods to try – When cooking oysters from a jar, there are a number of methods to help you achieve delicious results. The best way to cook them is to bread them and fry them in neutral oil over medium heat. You may also use them in chowders and soups, sauté them with herbs in butter, or bake them after applying seasonings.

Try one or more of the following methods

Cooking Oysters From a Jar in a Chowder or Soup

Follow these easy steps

  • Pour the oysters onto a colander set above a sink and rinse them thoroughly.
  • Add the oysters to the stove when the soup or chowder is almost done. So they don’t get too overdone and chewy; wait until there are about 3 to 5 minutes of frying time left.
  • Add a pinch of salt to your soup and serve.

Jarred oysters can be used in almost any seafood soup or chowder recipe you choose.

Sauteing Oysters From a Jar

Giving the oysters a brief sauté on the pan with garlic, butter, and your favorite herbs like parsley and chile is one of the most delightful ways to appreciate their natural flavor.

Follow these easy steps.

  • Drain, rinse, then pat your oysters dry with a paper towel. Set aside the oysters.
  • 2 garlic cloves, a small onion, and 1 tablespoon of parsley should be finely minced. Afterward, set it aside.
  • On the stovetop, preheat a frying pan over a medium heat level.
  • In a frying pan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the garlic, shallot, parsley, a few sprinkles of chili flakes, and ½ teaspoon of sea salt once the butter has melted.
  • Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until aromatics are bright and fragrant.
  • Put in your oysters and cook them for 4 to 5 minutes with fresh herbs and seasonings.
  • Take the contents of the frying pan off the heat and place them in a serving bowl.
  • Squeeze the juice from half a lemon over the top and season with salt and pepper. To help absorb the pan sauce, serve with crusty bread.

Broiling Oysters From a Jar

  • Set aside a broiler-safe baking dish that has been lightly greased with oil.
  • Combine the following ingredients in a mixing bowl: 2 tablespoons of parsley, chopped, 1 garlic clove (chopped), ½ shallot (cut finely), a quarter teaspoon of red chili flakes, 1 quart of thick cream, 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil, 2 tablespoons of champagne vinegar or white wine vinegar.
  • Add 2 dozen jarred oysters to the mixture and whisk to blend.
  • Fill a greased baking dish (make sure it’s broil-safe) halfway with the mixture.
  • Sprinkle ½ cup of Parmesan cheese and some pinches of black pepper.
