Chinese Chicken Balls Recipe

  • by

Chinese chicken balls can often be found at nearly all Chinese restaurants in the United States. Chinese chicken balls are pieces of chicken that are coated with a batter and then fried and served with sweet and sour sauce. The sweet and sour sauce gets a lot of its flavor from ketchup, vinegar, and pineapple juice. If you don’t have pineapple juice you can just use water but the flavor won’t be exactly the same. If you would like a loss that is a little bit less sweet simply add less sugar. You can fry the chicken pieces in a large pot or a deep-fryer, using a deep-fryer will be a bit easier. I like to serve this recipe with white rice. Enjoy.

Chicken Wontons Recipe

Chicken Wontons
A delicious Chinese fried appetizer is chicken wontons. This appetizer consists of a chicken and shrimp mixture that is stuffed into wonton wrappers and fried in hot oil. The wontons get a lot of flavor from sesame oil, fish sauce, white pepper, and green onion. These wontons are delicious served alone or with a dipping sauce. The dipping sauce is a combination of sweet chili sauce, lime juice, cilantro, and sesame seeds. I personally found that the wontons were so good they did not need a dipping sauce but if you want the extra flavor, it is very easy to prepare. Wrapping the wontons do require a little bit of work but it is well worth the effort. The chicken and shrimp for this recipe go into the wonton wrappers raw. The hot oil will cook the chicken and shrimp while frying. Enjoy.

Chicken with Snow Peas
Chinese chicken with snow peas is a great dinner to serve over rice. The chicken is first marinated and then breaded and baked in the oven instead of using the deep-fryer. Asian BBQ Roast Pork Recipe

Asian BBQ Roast Pork
Asian BBQ roast pork makes for a great tasting dinner. This is the pork that you can find at Asian restaurants that is red in color. The red color comes from food coloring and is totally optional—I chose not to use it. Preparing this roast pork is very simple… pork tenderloin is marinated in the sauce and then baked in the oven. While the pork is baking it is brushed with the reserved marinade. The pork gets a lot of its flavor from hoisin sauce and soy sauce. Some good options for side-dishes would be fried rice, egg rolls, and lo mein. Enjoy.

Jack Daniel’s Meatballs Recipe

Jack Daniel's Meatballs
I like to use Jack Daniel’s whiskey in all different types of recipes, including meatballs. These meatballs are flavored with Chinese ingredients such as soy sauce and green onion. For the meat I used ground pork but you could use ground beef as well. The meatballs consist of typical ingredients such as breadcrumbs, egg, and parmesan cheese. I like to add fresh garlic and green onion right into the meat mixture for even more flavor. Once the meatballs are rolled they are placed into the oven and baked. The sauce is boiled on the stove top and gets a lot of its flavor from Jack Daniels and soy sauce. You can double the sauce ingredients if you want a little more sauce for the noodles. I like to serve this dish over pasta noodles and sesame seed and green onions for a garnish. Enjoy.

Beijing Noodles Recipe

Beijing noodles
If you are looking for a simple Asian pasta dish to prepare, these Beijing noodles are great. This recipe consists of only a few different ingredients. Most of the flavor comes from black bean sauce. Ground pork is stir-fried in the wok with some black bean sauce and then the potatoes are added into the mix. I like to use pre-cooked stir-fry noodles for this recipe, as no boiling is required. I just add them right into the sauce for a few minutes and stir. Of course, pre-cooked noodles can be hard to find, and you can use pretty much whatever type of pasta you want—rice noodles, chow mein noodles, spaghetti, etc. When the dish has finished cooking it is garnished with fresh cucumbers. I feel like the cucumbers really add a good amount of flavor to this dish. Enjoy.

Asian Chicken with Pasta
Asian chicken with pasta makes a great dinner that requires no side-dish but of course, you can serve it with egg rolls, fried rice or anything that you like. What is great about this recipe is that it uses boneless chicken thighs instead of breasts. The boneless thighs can be cooked for longer in the wok without becoming dry. The chicken is marinated in ingredients such as soy sauce and oyster sauce and then stir-fried in the pan. The noodles are cooked right in the wok and then mixed with cabbage, carrots, and oyster and soy sauce for even more flavor. Instead of chow mein noodles you can use pre-cooked stir-fry noodles if you want find them. Enjoy.

Wonton Soup Recipe

  • by

Wonton Soup
One of my favorite soups to get at Chinese restaurants is Wonton soup. Wonton soup consists of wontons that are filled with a pork mixture and then cooked in either chicken broth of water. This recipe cooks the wontons in water because the dish can be served as leftovers. If the soup is allowed to sit the wontons will make the soup cloudy, thick and starchy. If you intend to serve the soup immediately, the wontons can be cooked right in the broth. The broth really only consists of chicken stock and sesame oil. You can add additional ingredients to the broth for a little more flavor such as soy sauce. Soy sauce will also give the broth a darker color, if that is what you prefer. Wonton soup is great to serve for lunch or with any Chinese dinner. Enjoy.

Shrimp with Lobster Sauce Recipe

shrimp with lobster sauce
Here is a delicious recipe for shrimp with the lobster sauce just like they make at the Chinese restaurants. There is no actually no lobster in this sauce but there are egg and ground pork. There a few different ways that this recipe is prepared—mostly with or without ground pork. You can also add peas and carrots to the sauce if you wish. To get the sauce a darker color, just add more soy sauce but be careful because you do not want the sauce to become too salty. You can use medium or large shrimp whichever you choose—I like to get them all ready peeled and deveined to save some time. This dish goes great to serve with white rice or fried rice. Enjoy.

Pork Egg Rolls Recipe

pork egg rolls
If you are in need of an appetizer to go with your favorite Chinese dinner, this recipe for pork egg rolls is a good option. Preparing your own egg rolls does require a little bit of work but they are so much better than the frozen ones that you can get from the store. The egg rolls can be frozen so when you are ready to prepare your Chinese dinner, you can just pull them out of the freezer. When you go to cook them, you can cook them right from the frozen state, they should not be thawed first. These egg rolls are packed with delicious ingredients such as ground pork, carrot, cabbage and garlic. If you want to cut down on the prep time a little bit you can buy a bag of shredded cabbage and carrot and use that instead of chopping the head of cabbage and the carrots individually. Enjoy.

Pork Fried Wantons Recipe

pork fried wontons
One of my favorite appetizers to eat at Chinese restaurants is the pork fried wontons. These wontons are packed full of flavor because of ingredients such as soy sauce and sesame oil. The process to making this recipe is a little time consuming because you need to wrap all of the wontons individually—if you have someone to assist you, it should go a lot faster. Otherwise, this recipe is very easy to prepare. The ground pork is mixed with numerous ingredients and then placed into wontons wrappers. The wontons are then folded and fried in hot oil until fully cooked. If you do not want to use wonton wrappers, pot sticker wraps could work as well. There are a couple of different ways to fold these wontons. You can fold them into triangles like crab Rangoon’s or you can fold them into a bag shape. I like to serve these pork fried wontons with sweet and sour sauce. Enjoy.
